Developed by Dr. Nicholas Long, Dr. Frank Fecser and Dr. Mary Woods, Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) is a therapeutic strategy for using crisis situations as opportunities to help individuals learn alternatives to patterns of aggressive, disrespectful, or self-demeaning behavior. LSCI focuses on chronic patterns of self-defeating behavior that often do not respond to traditional behavior management.

Response Ability Pathways (RAP)

Response Ability Pathways – or simply RAP – provides essential strength-based strategies for all who deal with young persons in family, school, or community. RAP is an application of the Circle of Courage model of positive youth development described by Larry Brendtro, Martin Brokenleg and Steve Van Bockern in their book Reclaiming Youth at Risk. According to Dr. Martin Brokenleg, RAP applies Circle of Courage principles to help all young people develop belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity.

Satori Alternatives to Managing Aggression (SAMA)

Designed by Larry Hampton, CEO of Learning Designs, Inc., San Antonio, The SAMA program focuses on preventing aggression from becoming physically harmful. The emphasis of the course is on using the Assisting Process in all interactions and is demonstrated in the four programs that constitute the training.

Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale

Developed by Dr. Kay Hodges:

·    The CAFAS is the gold standard for assessing a youth's day-to-day functioning across critical life domains AND for determining whether a youth's functioning improves over time

·    Backed by over 20 years of research supporting its validity and sensitivity to detecting change in functioning

·     Widely used to inform decisions about level of care, type and intensity of treatment, placement, and need for referral

·    CAFAS items (problem behaviors, strengths, and goals) are behaviorally descriptive and anchored, resulting in high credibility

·    Quickly completed by practitioners (10 minutes), based on information from routine clinical evaluation
